How To Recover From Cervical Cancer

Recovery

After multiple treatments for cervical cancer, the typical patient is tired, worn, and extremely unmotivated.  This can often lead to depression, and the patient will never win their life back, but if you are anything like my mother, you do not want to live your life this way.  My mother has always refused to give up, so when she was diagnosed with cervical cancer in the third stage, she kept fighting.  Although, as you may know, the surgeries and treatments for cervical cancer can really break you down, but not if you follow my mother’s steps!

1st Step—Accept yourself as you are

Understand that you are a strong woman, and that while you may have suffered from cervical cancer, you lived through it.  You have something to be proud of, so accept yourself exactly how you are.  Understand that you are an amazing woman and that you can still do great things with your life.

2nd Step—Start

Being to do things that make you feel good about yourself.  Volunteer, help other women suffering from cervical cancer.  Go to support groups and cancer awareness groups and tell your story, you will inspire others and make them feel better about their situation, which will in turn boost your self-esteem.

3rd Step—Set dreams & accomplish them

Sit down with a loved one and start writing down your dreams for your life.  What would you like to accomplish?  Set reasonable dates for each goal, and then start accomplishing one step and one day at a time.  Do not do them alone either, have your loved one accomplish them with you, and also accomplish your loved one’s dreams with them.  This is great for bonding.

4th Step—Do not take a day for granted

Live every moment and every day to its fullest.  A wise professor once said, “Every morning, the time bank credits me with 86,400 seconds. Every night, it writes off, as lost, whatever we have failed to spend or invest wisely. It will not carry over a balance. If I fail to use the day’s deposits wisely, the loss is profound. No matter how wonderful my time-management skills are, I cannot get more than 86,400 seconds in a day. Therefore, I must live each day on my daily deposit, and invest it wisely to get the utmost in health, happiness, and success from personal and professional life.”

5th Step—Love, love, love

Bond with your husband, wife, or children.  Plan many family gatherings where you can just enjoy your family’s company, distant relatives as well.  Being around people and family can boost your spirits.  Take time away from work and other obligations to truly bond with your immediate family especially.  Surround yourself with love and kindness.

Recovering from cervical cancer can be hard, but as long as your surround yourself with positive attitudes and loving people, you will do just find.  Smiles are contagious.  Allow yourself to get plenty of rest for the first few weeks after surgery and follow all recommendations given to you by your doctor.  But once your physical healing time is up, then it is time to work on your mental healing, the most important part if you ask my mother.
